"Lerna", originally built in 1881-82 is a heritage listed home situated on a landmark site on Ballast Point, and was the winner of the 2017 Marrickville medal for best development of a period home.

Our brief was to restore the original dilapidated house, and extend its reach within a natural landscaped setting, including a new swimming pool.

By adding two contemporary pavilions situated on two corners of the original house, all facades of the heritage home can still be viewed in its entirety from all aspects. This design also allowed a large court yard to be created that is a nicely protected space from harbour winds. An entry forecourt was also included by retaining the remains of the original old ‘lean too’ kitchen walls and chimney.

The result is a beautifully restored home with adjoining modern pavilions that allows the owners to appreciate their artwork within an inviting natural landscape.
