This Victorian Terrace house is perched on a cliff face overlooking Sydney Harbour. It also adjoins a heritage listed site in a strict conservation zone. The challenge was to satisfy strong heritage controls, maintain structural stability of building to a cliff, and overcome fire rating restrictions to gain boundary glazing that maximised space and view opportunities. The addition is formed by a suspended timber structure accommodating a new master bedroom and two bathrooms. Directly below are the kitchen and living spaces that open to harbour views and the garden. The new structure is separated from the existing terrace by a court yard that creates natural light and an external space that the kitchen opens directly onto.
